Lt. Colonel Ron Mumm, when commander of the Thunderbirds, asked Fisher to design a pen with a "gripping knob" to allow easy removal from the small, inside lower leg pocket of the pilot's flight suits.    This is the pen used by all Thunderbird pilots.
